The National Eisteddfod 2017

The Eisteddfod is our national shop window into music, dance, visual arts, literature, and original Welsh performances; but the Welcome will be the window of anglesey’s welcome shop. Eisteddfod week is the highlight of two years of community preparation, bringing people together to collaborate and facilitate the success of the Festival. Inclusive and welcoming, the Eisteddfod is a boon of creative and social energy for Welsh speakers, but also an important destination for learners and an interesting attraction for non-Welsh speakers who can enjoy the cultural feast through translation tools in the pavilion.

Amidst the preparations, Menter Iaith Môn is:

  • Promoting the range of events leading up to, which will take place during, the Eisteddfod
  • Support area committees with fundraising activities
  • Discuss communities’ ideas to make the most of this opportunity to welcome Wales’ biggest national festival to Anglesey
  • Ensuring that residents new to the eisteddfod tradition get to taste the breadth of experiences possible in preparation for and attendance at the Eisteddfod
  • Enabling local attractions to make the most of this opportunity to show our beautiful island at its best to the thousands of Welsh visitors who come
  • Supporting businesses who want to benefit from the Eisteddfod’s commercial opportunities by improving on their provision through the medium of Welsh
  • Advising individuals with accommodation to offer, on how to offer the best Welsh welcome
  • Ensuring a legacy for the Welsh language beyond the Eisteddfod period, through continued collaboration with local committees and other partners
