Fun Day at Glan-llyn on Welsh language celebration day

Posted Saturday January 7th, 2017 in the category

Families on Anglesey are offered a day of adventure at Glan-llyn on ‘Shwmae Su’mae!’ day; a national event to celebrate the Welsh language held on Saturday 15th of October. Helen Thomas who heads Menter Iaith Môn said: “This is an ideal opportunity, between the buzz of Summer and the preparations for Christmas, for children and young people, with their parents, carers or grandparents, to spend a fun away-day in the open air. We’ve had great feedback from past events where families enjoyed themselves on the high ropes and on the lake, all cooperating, screaming and laughing through the medium of Welsh!”

The day includes four activities supervised by Glan-llyn’s professional trainers, namely rowing, canoeing, ten-pin bowling, and the high ropes challenge as well as return transport from Anglesey (Bodedern, Llangefni and Llanfairpwll). Managed by the Urdd youth movement, Glan-llyn adventure camp, located on the shores of Llyn Tegid lake near Bala, is a popular destination for children and young people throughout the year.

All ages are welcome to join the Anglesey trip, including learners who wish to immerse themselves in Welsh for the day in pleasant and informal company. The trip includes four activities, transport, and a hearty meal for a greatly reduced cost of: £5 for children under 4, £15 for children aged 4-8, £20 for 9-11 year olds, and £25 for young people and adults. For further information contact Menter Iaith Môn by emailing hanna@mentermon.com or calling 01248 725709. Registration will be on a first-come basis with the deadline being Friday 30th of September.

The aim of Menter Iaith Môn is to promote and facilitate the Welsh language on the island, in part by offering inspiring opportunities and experiences through the medium of Welsh to develop personal and social skills and enable individuals to enrich their community life.
